Help us bring a skatepark to Forfar!
About a year ago, the Forfar Wheeled Sports Association together with the people of Forfar raised the £230,000 to build a skatepark in the town. In November 2007, Angus Council informed the committee that the amount raised for wasn't sufficient to build the planned skatepark. After the council initially offered the committee an underwrite of the remaining costs, the offer was retracted and councillors voted against helping the committee. As a group, we have sent a written complaint to the head of Neighbourhood Services and furthered our complaint to the Ombudsman.
The Committee is made up of enthusiastic young people who have wanted a skatepark in Forfar for over 6 years. Some of them were involved with the architects working on the plans for the park and many now come along to meetings to give ideas for local fundraisers and also help to get them organised. We aim to have one of the best skateparks in the east of Scotland which will be for local young people who want to skate, skateboard or cycle BMXs, but which will also bring in people from further afield. This is turn will hopefully be of benefit to the economy of our town.
